If you’re thinking about buying one of the best lightweight
walkers on the market, read my buying tips to make sure you choose the right
lightweight walker for your mobility needs, activity level and budget. The best lightweight walker can give you freedom,
independence and security, especially when you travel.
And you can see my #1 recommended lightweight walker that's under 7lbs: the Able Life Space Saver Lightweight Folding Travel Walker on Amazon.
Has your doctor or physical therapist recommended a standard lightweight walker for you? A standard walker is a four legged walker that has no wheels. A standard walker is often called a medical walker. And what makes a standard lightweight walker unique is that it offers the most amount of balance support for those of us who can’t support a lot of our body weight with our legs. Because a four leg standard walker has no wheels, it’s the most stable and supportive best lightweight walker style on the market.
I highly recommend the Able Life Space Saver Lightweight Folding Travel Walker on Amazon. Why? Because it weighs less than 7lbs, it's great for traveling or putting on the back seat or in the trunk of your car. With just your finger, you can fold it up in seconds and tuck it away.
The Able Life Space Saver Lightweight Walker is also strong & stylish - and it supports up to 400lbs. It comes in a lovely Regal Rose color!
And don’t forget, if you’re a taller person, or you’re carrying a few extra pounds, there are some really nice heavy duty walkers that are perfect for you. A heavy duty walker or bariatric walker will keep you moving!
My best bariatric walker recommendation is the Medline Bariatric Folding Walker with 5" wheels on Amazon. It's designed with an aluminum frame with a front cross brace and two side braces, for extra strength. This Medline Folding Walker will support up to 500 lbs to keep taller or larger people moving. I love how it easily folds up with the release of two buttons, so it can easily move through narrow halls or doorways.
I highly recommend it and you can check Amazon's price on the Medline Bariatric Folding Walker.
If you don’t need a 4 leg walker, because you have more strength in your legs, then you’ll
want to think about a rolling walker. A rolling walker has two front wheels
with two back legs. You’ll be able to walk faster with a rolling walker.
Personally, I recommend a rolling walker with 5” wheels, because I think the
older lightweight walker models with 7” wheels are just too hard to push. And
I’ve found that the 5” wheels roll much better on outdoor surfaces. Another good tip for choosing the best lightweight walkers.
I highly recommend the EZ2Care Deluxe rolling walker on Amazon.
It has 5" front wheels, with slip-resistant tips on the back - and it moves very smoothly. Made of durable & light aluminum, the EZ2Care Deluxe rolling walker is strong and lightweight - and super easy to fold up. Very soft & comfortable hand grips too!
And yes, there are strong
and stylish bariatric rolling walkers for those of us who are a little heavier. They're still lightweight walkers too!
I highly recommend this Medline Bariatric Rollator Walker on Amazon for those of us who are heavier or taller!
Here's why: this Medline Bariatric Rollator is stylish but still supports up to 400 lbs! The frame and wheels have reinforces bracing, forks and spokes for added strength and durability. Which will give you confidence and freedom. And it comes in an attractive burgundy color.
And it's thoughtfully designed with a wider distance between the handles and a wider, padded seat. And I love that the basket on the Medline rollator can be positioned under the seat, or in front, to suit your individual needs.
Are you fairly active, and want to continue to be active? Do you have enough strength in your legs to support your body, but you do need some help with balance issues? Or you tire out easily? Your doctor may have recommended a three wheel rollator or four wheel rollator for you. In that case, instead of comparing the best lightweight walkers, you’ll want to compare rollator walkers with seats.
This Drive Medical Four Wheel Rollator on Amazon is my #1 all-around rollator walker choice! It's not only strong, easy to fold and economically priced - but it's also stylish!
I love the four 7.5" wheels that are non-marking - and they work very well indoors and outdoors. It also has a tough & strong steel frame and you'll find it very easy to adjust it to your personal height.
This Drive Medical Rollator on Amazon features a really nice padded seat with a padded backrest that you can fold up or down. And I want to mention that the ergonomic handles are very comfortable in your hand. It also comes in blue or red!

I love rollator walkers because you can walk as fast or as slow as you’d like, they work great on outdoor surfaces, they have secure handbrakes – and most have built in rollator seats so you can take a break whenever you want. And walker rollators really are handy to have if you go out to a restaurant. You can just steer your rollator walker up to your table and comfortably sit down on your rollator seat.
A 3 wheel rollator is designed to be even lighter and have smaller overall dimensions than 4 wheel rollators. You’ll be able to navigate small walkways, hallways and aisles more easily.
Check out my #1 three wheel walker pick: the Drive Medical Winnie Lite on Amazon. It's very light, strong and stylish! And you can check Amazon's price on the Drive Medical Winnie Lite.
I like to think of 3 wheel lightweight walkers as the greyhounds of the
walkers. Lightweight, fast and sleek! A great choice when you're shopping for the best lightweight walkers.
When you’re comparing the best lightweight walkers, keep in mind that you always want to choose a folding model. Yes, you’ll want to be able to fold up any type of lightweight walker to fit in a car trunk, back seat of a car or van. Or, if you’re at church, movie or restaurant, you’ll want to be able to fold your walker into a compact size, so you can discretely tuck it out of the way.
Also, the best lightweight walkers will adjust to your height. It’s important to adjust your new walker to the correct height before you start using it. It’s incredibly important to have your lightweight walker set at the right height so that you do not lean over your walker.
The top of your walker should be set at the same level at your wrist:
Always take a look at the grips on any lightweight walker you’re interested in. I really like the walkers that have soft foam grips. Soft foam grips feel nice in your hands. And if your hands get sweaty, you can buy soft grip covers.
